The World Under 17 Hockey Challenge is a classified as a National Assignment in the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

This assignment would be somewhat equivalent to the National Women's Under-18 Championship, on the women's side of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

It has traditionally served as a stepping stone for referees and linesmen, on their way to other National Assignments or potentially International Assignments with the IIHF.

The officiating staff for this year's event was primarily made up of officials that also work games in the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

A special congratulations goes out to the crew (pictured above) that was selected to skate the Gold Medal game between Russia and the United States.

Referees Bobby Jo Love (BC Hockey) and Morgan MacPhee (Ontario Hockey Federation) were joined on the ice by linesmen Bradley Parker (BC Hockey) and Jonathan Deschamps (Hockey Quebec) for the final game!
